Mellor Primary School – Award Winning Space For Learning

Mellor Primary School has been a huge hit ever since it opened. Constructional Timber supplied the stunning European Larch portal frames, resulting in a fantastic finished space for the children to enjoy and learn in.

Located on the edge of the Peak District, Mellor Primary School extended its facilities to embrace its woodland setting. The north side of the school was transformed to create a covered timber deck looking out onto the surrounding woodland. The extension now forms a series of indoor and outdoor spaces; a library, an additional classroom, a special education needs (SEN) room, a larger hall, toilets and an outdoor equipment store.

The project has won a number of awards including the 2016 RIBA North West Awards and the Structural Timber Awards, Judge’s Choice and Best Education Project, as well as achieving highly commended in the 2016 Wood Awards.

If you would like to read more about the project, visit 'Wood for good's' website. If you have a project and would like to discuss the timber options available, please get in contact.

Progress on site at the new Anna Freud Centre

The new Anna Freud Centre at King Cross, London, is coming along nicely. Building in central London has its fair share of challenges, space being the primary one, but good progress has been made. The glulam used in the whole building is the super strong and attractive BauBuche. This choice of timber is ideal for a building this scale, with the whole building standing at an impressive 6 storeys! 432 glulam members are being used to construct the building, which will serve as the charity's new UK headquarters, providing invaluable support to families and children all over the country. A great building for a great cause.

Perse School Performing Arts Centre – Beautiful BauBuche!

Constructional Timber has just completed the roof on Perse School's brand new performing arts building. The roof is made of BauBuche, an extremely strong and versatile type of timber, with a diagrid panel roof. As you can see, the result is a fantastic looking space with an extremely modern design. One of the interesting parts of this roof is the fact that all the metal fixings and connections are internal, hidden away from the sight. This gives the impression of a fully wooden structure, something very aesthetically pleasing.

If you are interested in BauBuche, or any of our other timber products (Glulam, CLT, Feature Trusses...) please get in touch! Alternatively, have a look at some of the other projects we have completed on our 'projects' page.
