The European larch glulam roof pavilion at 10 Gresham Street, London, is a standout example of how engineered timber can elevate high-profile commercial developments. Positioned at roof level with panoramic views across central London and towards St Paul’s Cathedral, the pavilion creates a refined, contemporary space that balances architectural presence with material warmth. The natural character of European larch brings texture and richness to the structure, enhancing the experience of the space while complementing its historic urban context.

The pavilion’s glulam structure was precision-engineered and manufactured offsite, allowing complex detailing and tight tolerances to be resolved in a controlled factory environment. This approach ensured exceptional build quality and consistency across all timber elements, while significantly reducing on-site programme time in a constrained city-centre location. Offsite fabrication also enabled careful coordination with other trades, ensuring the pavilion integrated seamlessly into the wider rooftop scheme.

Concealed, high-performance connections were incorporated within the glulam members to maintain clean architectural lines and uninterrupted views across the city skyline. The result is a lightweight yet robust roof pavilion that was delivered and assembled efficiently, with minimal disruption to the surrounding area. This project demonstrates how offsite-manufactured glulam can provide an elegant, sustainable solution for complex rooftop structures, even within some of London’s most sensitive and iconic settings.
