Perse School, Cambridge

The new Music Hall at The Perse School is a striking example of how advanced engineered timber can deliver exceptional performance and architectural presence. Constructed using a Baubuche beech LVL structure, the building combines strength, precision, and refined aesthetics to create a space designed specifically for musical performance and education. The exposed timber structure brings warmth and rhythm to the interior, reinforcing the hall’s purpose as a place of creativity, focus, and expression.

Baubuche beech LVL was selected for its outstanding structural capacity and dimensional stability, enabling slender members and generous spans while maintaining a clean, elegant profile. The structure was precision-engineered and manufactured offsite, allowing complex geometry, tight tolerances, and high-quality finishes to be achieved within a controlled factory environment. This offsite approach ensured consistency across all elements and supported a smooth, efficient installation on site.

The result is a high-performance timber structure that meets the demanding technical requirements of a music hall while delivering a visually striking architectural outcome. The Baubuche LVL frame demonstrates how innovative engineered timber solutions can support specialist educational buildings, combining structural efficiency, acoustic performance, and long-term durability with the warmth and character of natural materials.
